The One-dollar Prexie

Fourth class, special delivery use

Fifty-five cents was the rate for a nine pound package sent to Zone 1 or Zone 2 (up to 150 miles) between October 1, 1953 and February 1, 1960. The first pound cost twenty-three cents, and each subsequent pound or fraction of a pound cost 3.95 cents. Between January 1, 1952 and July 14, 1969, special delivery for other than first class for a package weighing more than two pounds and less than or equal to ten pounds the cost was forty-five cents, making the cost for this September 1955 package an even dollar. The Liberty dollar stamp had only been issued about a month before, so there would have been a supply of Prexies still around.
