The Thirteen-cent Prexie

Fourth class usage

Various Zone and weight combinations at different rate periods provided opportunities for the use of a solo thirteen-cent Prexie.

This label for sending film was used in 1947, a bit before films could be sent using library rates, so it would have had to have been sent under parcel post rates. At a local rate it would have been charged seven cents for the first pound, plus one cent for every additional two pounds, plus one cent surcharge, making its weight between ten and eleven pounds.

This label dates from October, 1945, and would have been used on a 2.5 to 3.5 pound package to Zone 4, mailed at the bound printed matter rate. The thirteen-cent rate applied from March 26, 1944 until January 1, 1949, composed of a one-cent surcharge on a twelve-cent rate.

This envelope also was mailed at the bound printed matter rate, for one pound to Zone 1 or 2, which was in effect from February 1, 1954 to February 1, 1960.
