The Sixteen-cent Prexie

Airmail special delivery use

A special delivery airmail letter was sixteen cents from the beginning of the Prexie period until the airmail rate increased to eight cents on March 26, 1944.

This cover was sent airmail special delivery on September 2, 1939, and forwarded. As the fee was claimed at the office of the first address, it did not get special delivery service at the forwarding address. Apparently the addressees returned to New York City from Chautauqua, and from a pencil notation on the back, received the letter on September 6.
