The One-and-one-half-cent Prexie

Horizontal coil stamp use

Printed matter sent to Canada in 1944 using a one-and-one-half-cent horizontal coil stamp. The printed matter rate in our postal treaty with Canada was one-and-one-half cents per two ounces from April 1, 1932 until November 1, 1953.

The stamp on this cover must have been stuck to the brown paper coil leader tightly, and the sender did not want to waste it, so attached enough of the leader that the post office clerk could tell that it wasn't just a stamp that missed a cancel and was cut off an envelope for reuse.
