The Twenty-four-cent Prexie

Airmail, registered, second step

During the Prexie period prior to March 26, 1944 airmail letters sent within the continental United States cost six cents per ounce. At the same time, second step registry with indemnity from $5.01 through $25.00 cost eighteen cents.

This letter was sent airmail by a jewelry store in 1942. It is easy to believe that it was registered for a declared value between $5 and $25.
