The Three-cent Prexie

Sheet stamp use

A three-cent sheet stamp used to pay the first class letter rate to a post office box in Santa Fe. This was one of the boxes that channeled mail to the staff of the atomic bomb project at Los Alamos and the troops who guarded the area, so the letter was censored. Most of the mail went to Box 1663, but this cover was sent to Box 180, reserved for the military technical staff and WACs.
