The Five-cent Prexie

Sheet stamp use

A five-cent Prexie was used to send this letter by air from a U.S. military post office in Tientsin, China in 1948. The sender was with the consulate there, and was able to use the military concession air mail rate in effect from October 1, 1946 until December 31, 1948. The U.S. Army had a presence in Tientsin briefly after the end of the Second World War, but left by the end of 1949 after the fall of the city to the Red Army in January of that year.
