The Seven-cent Prexie
Business reply mail fee use
The business reply mail service fee was one cent per item returned from October 1, 1928 until July 1, 1957.
The Emdees Medical & Surgical Supplies Company provided airmail business reply envelopes, so the charge for one reply in 1951 was the six-cent airmail charge in effect from January 1, 1949 until August 1, 1958 plus a one-cent service fee, resulting in a seven-cent Prexie solo cover. Note that the stamp was applied and cancelled at Mahwah, New Jersey by the post office to denote collection of postage and fee.
